In December 1957, negotiations were arranged between the Archdiocese of Los Angeles (the Diocese of Orange did not exist until 1976) and the Order of Friar Servants of Mary (Servites) for the opening of a new parish in Fullerton. The new parish was formed from parts of St. Mary's, St. Boniface, and St. Pius V and in January 1958, Fr. Manettus L. Ortmann, O.S.M. was named pastor of St. Philip Benizi.
The community is ethnically diverse with trilingual liturgies on Sundays and Holy Days. The scriptures and music are proclaimed in Spanish, Indonesian and English. During the annual Fiesta and other events throughout the year, the food and music of the Philippines, Indonesia and Mexico is presented. Since the first day in 1958, the community of St. Philip Benizi has grown to over 2,500 families.
Catholic Education has been priority since the beginning of our parish. St. Philip Benizi Catholic School opened. In 2002, St. Philip Benizi School and St. Mary's School merged. The combined school was established on the St. Philip Benizi Campus and in 2005 re-named Annunciation Catholic School and is now serving students from both parishes.
Jesus said: " Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind... and love your neighbor as yourself." Our mission is to live Jesus command in community.
